Today's films:
Passage to Marseille (1944) -- Watched this one because it had an awesome cast and was in my Humphrey Bogart DVD collection. Far too many flashbacks within flashbacks here, the stories overlap so often it is kind of challenging to follow them and I don't think they use this device in such an awesome way that multiple layers of flashbacks is necessary. The acting was pretty good, actually, and I thought the story was pretty cool and I enjoyed the climax. Basically the movie equates to a piece of propaganda in the end but is worth watching if you really like Bogart (even though there are other good actors here, as well).
The Aviator (2004) -- I didn't even know who Howard Hughes was and I feel like this movie did a good job educating you on his life during the periods it covers and gave you some idea as to the extent of obsessive compulsive disorder. Leo's acting was solid, the cinematography was far better than I expected and some scenes really blew me away. Although it clocks in at just under 3 hours it didn't really feel that long.
Déjà Vu (2006) -- This one deals with time travel and I give it props for dealing with that subject in as "non-lame" a way as possible. The whole time travel aspect is so non-fantastical that I don't even consider this a sci-fi movie although it probably is, technically. Denzel Washington plays the same character you've seen dozens of times before and I feel like the action sequences, dialogue, etc. were all a little bit above average for a standard action movie. If you aren't looking for something particularly insightful that has some action and will keep you guessing this is recommended.
Bonus points for Adam Goldberg, you can never go wrong with that dude.
