+The shield generators were on a small installation on a moon for the next one, so it's just the power for the wep which should be tiny and to move it which would be easy if small

First Intelligent responce, the intimidation factor was the only thing I could think of. Still planets are planets, like the asteroid strap a booster on it and you have premade one saving a fuck load of resources, could even choose one with atmosphere.
If they used it to refuel/repair star destroyers would make a bit of sense but I don't think we see that, lets just say it happens :)

well an asteroid isnt armor plated and you'd have to hollow it out which would pretty much make the asteroid pointless
theyd have to look for an asteroid the size of the deathstar
also
star destroyers and ships are stored on the deathstar
im fairly sure they refuel them there as well

^meh i just don't remember it from the movies, I could be wrong been awhile, I'm sure it's in the extended universe/media
I guess in the third movie in wasn't finished so the armor wasn't a big deal once they had taken down the shields. In the first one it doesn't need shields because the armor is awesome and then it can move around? But can't they generate them from the thing. I guess my idea is like the death planet and that didn't work so well for the empire either!
