thought it was just a bunch of special effects and action

at times it tries to be a serious moive, at other times it tries to be comedy-like (Starship Troopers style), fails in both imo

I've read some reviews today and apparently there are a lot of people who love it or hate it, so I guess it's a matter of taste

I kind of feel like everyone's just being critical because the plot's so simple and corny: Humans found a way to transmit a signal really far, aliens heard it and came to kill us.

If you can see past that it kind of feels almost like the most recent star trek movie... Albeit not as funny and with slightly worse acting.
