Well. This season was not my favourite. I feel as if the writing became rushed, no real ploys, felt the writing was not up to par with the other seasons, scenes felt duplicated and weak.
I just thought the character development other than Jamie was terrible. Aria is completely underwhelming, Sansa is annoying , half of them should be dead. Jon is plain old honorable Jon with zero development, sounds whiny at this point, some how they kept alive most of the supporting characters and Cersi has seen very littler development from where she was last season.
If season 8 doesn't deliver for me we're looking at another Dexter.
Now I realize I'm posting in a fan thread so I'll have to leave an explicit disclaimer of this is just my opinion.
We've had 5 seasons of character development. I agree that it didn't have the normal level of depth that we've come to expect from GoT, but the reason why is pretty clear. They're wrapping up the story and I'm thankful for that. The characters are developed, the stage is set, the atmosphere is thick. We know everything and now we get to watch how it unfolds in typical high budget glory. I'm not usually a fan of bang bang pew pew bullshit, but after 5 seasons of incredibly enjoyable writing and development, I'm happy to see it come to an epic conclusion. There will still be some backstabbing/treachery stuff from Cersei, but we've only got 6 episodes and there going to need to push things along elsewhere to actually make it possible to wrap up so much fucking shit in so few episodes.
Things progress, you can't expect the story to be as secretive and clever as it has been, it's just not possible to do that and also reach a conclusion, unless we had about 10 seasons and only about 3 of the episodes were interesting lol. I'd be happy with a more drawn out version, but this is also fine and to compare it to the fucking shit show Dexter is just a complete insult. This has always been the plan, this series was always going to send in an epic bloody fashion and what kind of plot/dialogue would make you happy in an epic battle? Dexter turned to shit because they didn't plan properly and they went for shock and wrote themselves into a corner like idiots, GoT is ending how it's intended to end and even if it's not deep enough for you, it'll still be glorious.
