Uhh they showed us last season
that isn't an origin...
it's obvious the night king is an actual person, and has something to do with the children of the forest.
whoever built the wall, or something else has something to do with it. Or it's Bran, since he has greensight and the ability to warg. So what's to say he can't teleport through time and stay there? He can revisit memories, and watch.
The scene that sticks out is when the dragonglass is shoved into the NK's heart, it's almost as if Bran is feeling it. And when he awakes, he's in the same position as the Night King. There's a lot of foreshadowing on it on some episodes.
And since we know the NK has greenseer and only that, Bran is more powerful than NK and the previous three eyed raven. Since he has the ability to warg as well. Emotionless, and expressionless just like NK.
It's said if you stay too long in your dream like Bran does, you stay there. Maybe he went back in time to put an end to something, and he stayed too long back in the past and thus himself becoming the Night King. Then born thousands of years later, forced to put an end to himself.
What's to say the Night King didn't resurrect Jon? As Bran cannot kill Jon as he loves him too much, hence why he went for the dragon. They never speculated on who or what the Lord of Light is, could it be Bran prior to becoming the Night King?
From there, Jon must kill Bran to put an end to the show. We were told it's a bittersweet ending, and that follows the path perfectly.
Another thing to take into account, this would mean that this was the plan from the first episode. Much like Hodor was done, perfectly written in and flashbacks occur for the ultimate mindfuck. This shit just makes too much sense, planned from the first episode.
