I just figured it's them dragging out the season. We already know Thea is not the most important thing to him, he just says it. For example, he said he would do anything for his daughter, when he betrayed Nyssa, but he refused to turn over the ring to save his daughters life. Power is the most important thing to him.

IMO, this show use to be great but now it is like they are just trying to hard to make it longer.
