Basically the times have changed with some of the movies listed in this thread.
We have watched the same plot in basically every movie... there isn't anything left except remakes and comic movies.
We basically criticise based on our preference of a movie... movies are not overrated at the time... it is the people rating
them and their definition of a bad / good / great / excellent etc.
Avatar was a great movie, plot was basic, but the difference was that the PLANETS inhabitants banded together against all odds.
CGI was great for its time, the so called Halo machines were incorporated, possibly because a New Zealander created one of the games.
Shawshank... omfg... that was also a great movie... and no one can say what prison life was like in those days with a view of todays life.
The storyline in my view was how prison life started to evolve and pave the way towards today.
I think people should write about movies that are not referred to as good.
The Internship... decent predictable storyline, over the top humor at points... but a good movie.
The Call... storyline is predictable to a point, but damn... I would hate to have that job... and Hale Berry did a great job... nice movie.
Dredd... okay... this is really predictable... good to watch for action... and it is funny to realise that Dredd is the CIA agent in RED hunting down Bruce Willis (Dredd never shows his face)
The Worlds End... I am not into some of the humor, but decent enough movie to giggle at... the storyline is a bit off the cuff... but hey... it worked.
The Way Way Back... pretty decent movie, a bit slowish... but then it comes together... not an action movie, just a simple story.
Dead Man Down... typical to read, considering they show pretty much everything during movie... it is an action movie with a reason... still an okay movie to watch for some.
Red Dawn (Latest)... not too bad... I like it... predictable... typical storyline, just different enemy... still decent to watch
One movie I had to re-watch... Demolition Man... I forgot how funny that movie was...
