I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't really like Kevin Smith anymore. Feels like he is stuck in the early 90s, but not in a good way. Anytime I see an interview or watch a TV episode he directed I think to myself wow this guy has no fucking idea what he is talking about. He has no idea what good storytelling is.
Edit: he is one of those "I am going to kiss everyone's ass to make up for the fact that I'm a talentless hack" types.
Na.... you're not wrong man. I think he ran out of whatever creative relevance he had, and he's shifted to a position where he gets paid to give overly positive opinions of things that clearly suck. Doesn't mean I've lost all respect for what he accomplished though. The man did it practically by himself and his films were fucking genius. His standup or Q&As, whatever you want to call them, were phenomenal as well.
I don't want to speculate too much, but you see it all the times with actors and musicians. Like a rock or punk band who's angst stems from hardships they've overcome in their lives, releasing an album after they've been living fat for over a decade and you can just HEAR them fucking forcing it. Is what it is, but I'll always love his older work.
e: And he was still hilarious and witty when interacting with the audience when I went to that show. He's still a charismatic and entertaining guy, maybe just not entertaining enough to make original and funny films.
