I find it hard to be optimistic about this.... The first Matrix was a masterpiece, it left the door open for some many amazing possibilities, and I was in awe as a kid. I specifically remember getting pizza at one of our favorite local joints after seeing it in theaters, and talking with my family for about an hour straight about where we hoped/thought the franchise might go. I couldn't overstate how painfully disappointing the 2nd and 3rd installments were if I sat here for 30 minutes bitching about them.
The fourth film returning to its roots and putting together something based on story, over a mindless CGI fuck-fest, would make me ecstatic, but there's almost no chance of that happening. This is a cash grab, Reeves is stupidly popular right now due to the fucking internet and John Wick (which admittedly was a good movie, at least the first one), and they're going to cash in on the fact that his popularity combined with the return of his biggest hit, will automatically sell tickets.
I hope to god I'm fucking wrong, but I'm guessing this will be a 3-4/10 movie at best.

Maybe a year or two ago?
You had your expectations so abysmally low that you walked away feeling like it was a good movie, when it's not lol. There were some decent aspects of each, but acting, plot, and the effects are bad to subpar at best. The effects are even more painful when you consider how everything looked in the first (most of which holds up today). The first also cost less than half of what the sequel did, which only adds insult to injury.
I can semi-enjoy either of them as mindless action flicks, but the disappointment from what it could have been and from what it followed, is why those films hold a special place on my shit list.
You've never even seen a Football.
