It is crazy that it is more unusual to see a bad show on HBO than a classic all time great caliber show.

Pretty sure S2 starts the end of this month too.

HBO has the best quality (not quantity) programming by far out of all the streaming giants (amazon, netflix, hulu, etc)

It's not even close really. At least a handful of these others are finally starting to churn out quality shows, but not a single other major television network or streaming service, has released the quality that we've consistently come to expect from HBO. Starz is close with American Gods and depending how the second season goes, they could be the first to put out a show as good as HBO.

It's nuts though

True Detective
The Wire
The Sopranos
Deadwood
Westworld
Game of Thrones
Boardwalk Empire
Barry

Like, the fuck lol.

Even their mid-tier shows/comedies are well above average

Entourage
The Leftovers
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (Hands down the best version of this format there has ever been)
Veep
Ballers
Silicon Valley
Curb your Enthusiasm
Eastbound and Down

And I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting, plus, they hit on genres I despise, but that others love. Like Sex and the City or whatever other shit they have that women love.

AND they're even getting more ambitious, going for more GoT shows and pushing out a Watchmen show. I hope that everyone here now understands how massive and veiny my fan boner for HBO is.

Eastbound and down is so underrated, loveee that show. I'm a huge Curb fan as well. Another good comedy is Crashing (w/ pete holmes, super funny).

I still need to watch the leftovers and deadwood, seen just about everything else you listed. Whats better, deadwood or leftovers if you had to pick one?

Yeah, i saw a trailer for Watchmen, that looks promising...

Deadwood 100%.

It was one of the best shows HBO has ever done and then they killed it off right when shit was hitting the fan. That was a massive letdown for the fans, but we're finally going to get closure this year. They're doing a movie with the original cast and they're going to be finishing the story up. I'm soooooo fucking hyped for it.

It gets better and better man. The first season was outrageous, I'm just praying the second season ends up being close to as good.

Just watched the most recent episode and realized this thread needed a bump.

I said good thing about this series earlier here, but S2E4 was an absolute masterpiece. It's one of the best episodes of any show I've seen in a long time.

This show went from "worth checking out" to an absolute must watch.

I just finished the series and I thought it was pretty good. I also noticed Goran was the guy they were looking for the entire time in true detectives season 1 lol. Also, agree the foreign guys and the bald are funny. I realized barry's handler is the same guy who was in dodgeball and that was a looooong time ago.

Overall, it had a pretty good assortment of actors, comedy, serious parts, and henry winkler playing a dick acting coach was funny too.

Looking forward to how season 2 goes starting march 31st.

haha yeah HBO recycles a lot of actors and its funny watching people uve seen play completely different characters

started reading up on this show a bit more and was surprised to realize that the black cop chick that Gene was dating in S1 wasn't actually killed by Barry in the season finale

She knew she had heat on her from her mob case, so she used Gene and Barry to help her fake her death. All these melodramatics of Gene being mad that the cops haven't found her are just for show. Makes sense that he could pull this off since his character is an experienced drama actor

Him trying to give the cabin to his son was a way of covering the tracks. He has Janice holed up at a new cabin they acquired.

Are ya'll as surprised as I was to have this twist revealed?

I mean that's what happens when you have faith in writers and allow them to tell a story, rather than going for lowest common denominator studio meddling views per week bullshit
