I don't have a direct link at the moment but there was a critic taking about how his positive review was listed as rotten which prompted me to look more into rt. RT isn't really secretive about how the site works, they just aren't really super open about it either.
A critic CAN pull quotes he wants prioritized on RT and he CAN rate it fresh or rotten if he wants, but if he doesn't care and just submits his review then apparently a RT staff member does it for them, designating fresh or rotten based on percentage of key words (imo claiming none of it is automated is complete bullshit considering how many reviews there actually are). I personally used to think it was done based off of a scale system but that's completely wrong. Its closer to basically a thumbs up or thumbs down system.
Essentially if a critic decides to... You know.. Criticise a movie, even if they like it their review can be listed as rotten.
Basic article describing how it works if you're to lazy or don't care enough to look into it yourself:
http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/feature/a834719/rotten-tomatoes-problem/Right.... but is there any EVIDENCE, key word being evidence, not just people claiming it works that way. I've looked through thousands of reviews, and I've never seen one listed incorrectly lol. If it happens, I'm sure it's such a rare occurrence, that it doesn't have an impact on anything. People just bitching over stupid and pointless shit.

Used imdb a long time. But the site gets worse and worse. They removed a comment section and now you can't filter your watched movies anymore.
Wanted to move to Letterboxd, the site is nowhere near perfect and it doesn't offer any kind of information.
Just want something to keep track of my watched movies and my watchlist, haven't found a perfect solution yet, so I am used both listed sited.
As for Reviews, I don't care. Rotten Tomatoes publishes pretentious and biasd bullshit, imdb just has retarded votes (every bullshit Blockbuster gets an 8/10, if it includes Superheroes you get a 9/10)
I frequently watch a German movie news Show called Kino+, I trust their opinion and this usually works for me as far as reviews go.
Vouch 1000%. I hate RT lol, but for things they actually do. IMDB isn't reliable at all anymore, and I don't ever trust their ratings.
Like I've said though so many times on here, no one should ever trust ratings 100%. Reviews should be used as one additional piece of information, and it should be the least important factor of all the available resources to us the customer.
