Sometimes less is more.

Which is why there is less great TV shows. I think it is harder to make a masterpiece stretch out 60 hours than 2.5. It makes sense.

But saying great tv shows > great movies is a bit incorrect.

Making a masterpiece fit into 2-2.5 hours can be just as hard as keeping consistent quality for 50.

They are two different beasts and should be judged separately.

did they fail to include all your favorite scenes in a recap?

Well those are pretty pivotal moments in the show lmao

And yes guys obviously I know you can't correctly cut 5 seasons into 2 hours. But it could have been better my only point.

Was just throwing my 2 cents cause I was seeing this on the internet, it had some hype, and wanted to save you guys 2 hours

I respect your opinion but I disagree.

The show runners of GoT even said they think of their show as a 60 hour long movie. They hate when people consider it a TV show, even though technically it is. Movies have insanely high budgets and they also have access to a lot more experienced actors. They are bound to pump out a lot more good movies than TV shows.

I think this Breaking Bad movie just shows how a long TV series can have a lot more great content than a movie. I think it is a lot more difficult to keep a story going that long while maintaining the amount of greatness. I love movies don't get me wrong. Watching movies and TV shows is probably my biggest hobby. I just think the few shows that are masterpieces in my opinion are more unique and better than the great movies. I don't think TV in general is better though. The majority of the shows on TV are mediocre as fuck and amazing shows are pretty rare. I know I'm probably in the minority here too lol.

it's not character development, i hate that in general who says character personalities have to change for it to be good. More like how attatched you get to the characters which takes time

thinking of battlestar galactica finale, wouldn't have the same impact after a 1.30 film

next level tv shows (excluding comedy/documentary/anime)
bsg
eatbound & down
fargo
jessica jones
westworld
stranger things
sherlock
legion
firefly
breaking bad

movies (excluding anime)
avatar
interstellar
the matrix
django
alien(s)
men in black
snatch
pulp fiction
the dark knight
lotr
watchmen
fight club
wall-e
charlie & the chocolate factory (come at me)
cloud atlas
tron legacy ^
edge of tomorrow
guardians of the galaxy
kingsman
fear & loathing

probably missed a bunch of movies, my point was that considering how much longer the tv's shows are there aren't that many more movies I consider to be outstanding (like 2x)

Obviously characters don't have to change.

Seeing a character grow up while showing how the plot, setting, and other factors influence them and change who they are is very entertaining. You don't need it. It isn't a necessity. If it's done well though it can add to an already great film or show.

GoT is a perfect example of how character development can be a great thing. Sansa and Jaime are good examples of how character development can help. But you also have characters like Jon who up until season 6 was practically the same guy. There is no template for TV shows or movies. It is what makes them so great.

I've never heard of a good movie maker saying they had to make shit up to put in the movie because it wasn't long enough. Usually it is spending hours agonizing over what to cut because the movie is too long. In that sense making a great tv show is significantly easier because you can put everything in without cutting as much meaning you can easily fully tell your story.
The problem is most shows either go on far too long because of studio contacts or selling out your idea, or just aren't good in the first place. If you have a fantastic story to tell and an unlimited budget it would be far easier to make it a great TV show because of previously stated reasons.

But I mean look at anime, your personal opinion on the art form aside, there are many anime series and many anime movies that are extremely great, but the amount of great series probably > film because budget isn't really an issue for anime in Japan.

I would only agree that quality TV is hard because of budget. But it isn't that the budget isn't there, it's that it is given to shit places. Like no studio is going to give some random show the same money they give the big bang theory, but a notable director could persuade a studio into investing in his movie.

/e:Also there are completely different factors to account for. Like if I'm feeling like a drama then I'll watch a movie because it's emotional but not overwhelmingly so. I mean 50-60 hours of getting your heart crushed is just too much. Isomer if Manchester by the sea was a series. Holy shit I couldn't imagine binge watching that as a series, talk about ways to become suicidal. But on the same note sometimes you just want to watch a cheesy feel good thing. To me the flash is a perfect example of that. You get attached to characters and so cheesy stuff that might be annoying in a movie where you don't feel as attached to the characters actually works. There are completely different things to take into account when deciding on value for a movie or show.

I don't really watch anime so idk much about it. I guess if you consider the first Avatar show an anime... Which surprisingly was pretty good for a children's show.

It's an American cartoon. I only bring anime up because in my opinion it's a good example of what a tv show could do without budget constraints. Erased is one of my favorite anime series but I don't think I could watch it multiple times because it is so emotionally draining.

Shocking that a fan made thing condescending 7 seasons of goodness into two hours would be terrible. Are you retarded?
