It was rated r do it could do the theme park ride properly(which it did). All of the actual killing joke stuff felt ripped directly from the comic... which it was, and it was great. We have the voice of batman and joker and batgirl and they all did a good job as usual, as you would expect. The art style was reminiscent of the comic book which was cool considering how unique Bolland's style is.
A lot of people didn't enjoy the first half, which is understandable, but it mirrored Batman's relationship with the joker pretty nicely and shows how Batman cares for batgirl and doesn't want her to fall into the same cycle he and the joker are in. Plus it isn't the first time in comics batgirl has slept with batman so saying it is unusual isn't really a good argument.
I don't recall a 40+ batman fucking an 18 year old girl. I certainly don't remember the Killing Joke being 50% about Batgirl acting like a stereotypical idiot teenager crying over some boy she can't have. The whole thing was a joke, the script was bad, the story made unnecessary and pointless character developments that completely killed any emotion you might have felt towards the characters. The Joker being the only decent thing in the entire movie was still only mediocre. Hamill owns that role, for him to be anything other than stellar is a disappointment and detracts from the overall value of any animated batman film. Everything just felt so fucking forced... there was no emotion in the entire story, it was impossible to care when Barb gets shot. How the hell could any reasonable person identify or care about a whiny teenage girl with a daddy fetish? Had she not been portrayed as a dumb bimbo, it might have been possible to actually feel something for her, and that's when you connect with the rage that fuels Batman.... that's what made the original great, was that holy fucking shit he didn't just do that to that sweet innocent girl who only ever wanted to impress Bruce. But no, you don't get any of that. You see a stupid girl get shot and violated, her father humiliated and all you can think at that point after watching these terrible characters for so long is when will the credits fucking role so I can watch something else.
Edit - It was bad. You're entitled to your opinion, but it seems like "the art" is what made the movie for you. The writing was bad, the character development was atrocious, a lot of the acting felt phoned in and there was a complete disconnect with the audience by the climax from how bad the first 2/3rds of the movie had been.... If you're capable of overlooking all of that and still enjoying the movie because of the "art", fuck man, kudos to you.
