Really? I mean, ya, I agree with Dexter being boring. I drug my feet on trying to watch it and got through 3.5 or 4 seasons before I had to call it quits. TD is different though, the dialogue is enthralling and I found myself hanging on every word and I was completely wrapped up in the story. The acting was phenomenal, the directing was great and they had a good budget to make all of it work. You should give it another go if you never finished it, I don't think anyone could actually finish that first season and say they didn't at least partially enjoy it.

I think the best part of td season 1, not counting Alexandra Daddario, was the speculation and conversation with friends. I could see it being less enthralling if you are someone who just wants a 30-60 minute story or whatever. I mean sitcoms are huge for a reason.

I don't think anyone can look at it objectively and call it bad though.

Unfortunately, I didn't have any friends at the time who were watching it. My wife and I watched it together and we talked a bit about it. Unlike me though, she hates the analytical approach I take with shows and movies and she fucking despises when I guess what's going to happen before it does lol. Usually I just try to keep my mouth shut and be happy when I can convince her to watch good shows.

I actually really enjoyed season 2 as well. Sure, it wasn't nearly as good as the first season, but the first season was probably the best single season I've ever seen in my life. It's not exactly easy to measure up to that. By itself, had this been the first season, I think it would have been received more positively. I'm just really hoping they do come out with a season 3 eventually.

SO, to answer the original question though.

Here's a list of shows I've found to be above average, or at least mildly entertaining for their genre.

DRAMA -

Game of Thrones
Breaking Bad
Sons of Anarchy
True Detective
The Wire
The Sopranos
Boardwalk Empire
House of Cards
The Walking Dead ( I don't actually watch this show, I stopped when it stopped being about zombies, but it was entertaining at least)

COMEDY -

Rick and Morty (My personal favorite atm)
Archer (Second place after Rick and Morty took over)
Always Sunny in Philadephia
Silicon Valley
VEEP
The Simpsons (older Simpsons, the new stuff is pretty meh)
Futurama (Everything but the last 2 seasons imo)
South Park (Hit and miss throughout the entire show, some good stuff though)
HIMYM (Amusing Romcom/dram, nothing deep or anything, but the show was mildly entertaining for the most part)

ANIME -

Hunter x Hunter
Deathnote
Hellsing Ultimate
Claymore
Berserk
Gantz
Eden of the East
Elfen Lied
Code Geass
One Punch Man
Bleach/Naruto/Fairytail/One Piece - Just throwing these all together lol

Just what I can think of off the top of my head.
