Not really... plot/acting always matter, even if it just an action movie. That's why movies like Die Hard stand above action movies, because they have everything going for them, not just dramatic bullshit with horrible everything else lol.

It's chill if you liked it. The first one was just incredibly mediocre and this one looked even worse.

So it's not allowed to be good? It just needs to have explosions and some gunfights and you're happy?

It's good because the action is good...
That's why it's classified as an action movie

Explosions and gunfights are what make an action movie good, lmfao.

Oh lord...

Okay, I guess this is incredibly complicated so I'll just give some examples.

Just because it has explosions and action sequences and it's classified as an action movie, does not make it good.

Just because the action is somewhat amusing for the first 30 minutes, doesn't mean it doesn't get repetitive and stale without a strong cast/story to keep it intriguing. Movies like that don't holdup vs actually good action movies, and that's what you're missing. An action movie takes more than just action to actually be memorable and truly enjoyable. (see the list at the bottom for examples)

Once again, you're both entitled to your opinion, but I'm not really sure what you're arguing about at this point anymore. An action movie isn't considered great because it's got a couple of decent action sequences. No movie is good because of a single aspect, it's a combination of all aspects of any movie that transcend it from bad, mediocre or just plain boring to being exceptional or amazing. Action is without a doubt my favorite genre. Watching shitty/bad action movies is one of my guilty pleasures. I don't watch them because they're great movies, I watch them because they're so mind-numbingly dull that I can multitask by getting some work done, playing a game, or going to sleep while they're on in the background.

I just don't get how anyone can call a movie good because it's got a few decent action scenes. There needs to be more. Either it has to be something new you haven't seen, not the same old rehashed explosions, gunfights that we've seen 1,000,000,000 times before in previous movies (which is what London has Fallen is), or there needs to be enough character development, plot where you're truly questioning how things are going to end up or you're genuinely concerned for the protagonist or pumped on how much of a fucking badass he is.

Yes, if it's an action movie it needs good action, that is the top priority. But like I said, there are other things needed for the movie to actually be good. It's hard to enjoy an action movie in this day and age when it's horribly cheesy and trying to be serious (if it's cheesy and it knows it, then it can still be enjoyable e.g. Crank), or if the acting is so bad that you're literally hoping they go back to shooting stuff in the next 5 minutes or you're going to rip your hair out.

I honestly don't think I can explain this anymore clearly to you guys... just think logically for 5 minutes and compare this movie or other movies like it to the following list and then let me know if you really can't discern the difference between a good action movie and a bad action movie. They all have action, some just do it better than others.

These are just a couple off the top of my head. I didn't feel like putting together a comprehensive list, but if you're still missing the point, lmk and I'll see what I can do. I tried to include a few of each genre, action, action/drama, action/kung-fu etc... Once again, I'm willing to put together a more comprehensive list for you if you need it. I'm sure you'll disagree with me about the quality of which I've ranked some of these movies, but really just think about which movies are better. It's okay if you like everything, but there needs to be a scale, it can't go OMG amazing, Amazing, WOW, Good. There's great movies and bad movies and comparing the truly great ones against mediocre-bad movies is a good guideline.

Bay. I actually couldn't even make it through the first one without having to turn it off with how horrible it was. It just seems like these type of movies with explosions and action sequences (even if they are terrible), qualify as "good" action movies to these gentlemen. The old ones were horrible as well, but they didn't have enough big-budget action sequences for me to include them in the list.

Action movie vs serious movies that have some action in them

Big difference

Spiderman and IP Man, for instance, aren't really pure action movie

We obviously just have a difference of opinion though
I liked this movie more than the first
