It's not a matter of that, Burgler is exactly the same as every other movie gangster. Caring and loving towards friends and family but very calculating in everything he does, mercilessely violent when he needs to be.
The difference between this film and every other similar production is that Depp doesn't do the character justice, that is all.

It might be a case of the producers wanting to overstate every feature about the character to make it easy on the audience. Not too uncommon in contemporary filmmaking.

I disagree, he only shows love and compassion for two people in the movie, his son and his brother, even so we see very little of this. (which isn't Depp's fault)

I can't stand Depp normally, he's typecast as a quirky weirdo too often these days but I thought he was very good in this. His ability to lul a false sense of security in people with his laugh, smile and tone. Then CYA.

Also kudos to make up, have you seen pictures of whitey from the early 90s? Depp nails it imo.

As for the film on the whole, wasn't great.. But that has nothing to do with Depp who tries his best to carry it.

He's constantly portrayed as an outstanding guy who's widely popular in his own neighbourhood. That's why he's randomly friendly to some old woman in the streets, that's why the cop likes him despite him being a criminal.

"ability"

this is overdone all the time in the film, whenever he's about to kill someone I'm aware LONG before it happens, because of his stale acting and predictable boring character.

Nice, I've been meaning to check out the Lobster as I loved Dogtooth from the same director

Constantly? Happens once, right near the beginning of the movie.
He's not nice to anyone else at all. He kills people he considers friends or friends of friends.

The cop likes him, not because of this, but because they grew up together and more importantly he was getting the FBI massive results through informing.

Yea so could most of us, as we can in most films when shits about to go down. We know he's a criminal, we know he kills people. I still enjoyed his "ability" to do it, lull the characters into a false sense of security.

Best TV season: Mr. Robot?
Wasn't amazing but better than that pile of shit True Detective season 2

worst movie: Straight Outta Compton

No, the cop likes him because of his character, yes they grew up together but that's not the main thing. He's always going on about Whiteys character and principles.
It's outright shown once yes but it's implied many times and outright stated many times more. Watch the film again and focus on what the bribed agent says.
If you think about which people he reacts negatively against or kill it's always people who have wronged him in some way, if you cross him he is all bussiness but if you don't he's a friendly fellow, that's what the film shows.

And no, Whitey doesn't give the agency anything, it's all bullshit orchestrated by the bribed agent.

New Award:

Best female character: Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) Sicario.

Kickass and likeable, but fragile and human at the same time. Doesn't fall into the stronk women cliche. Well done.

If you want to talk about predictable movies......

Sicario spelled out every sequence before it happened.

I was excited for this movie, but it fell very short for me. The beginning had me hooked right away, but it went down hill from there.
The scene of them stuck in traffic was intense and thrilling, but that intensity didn't carry on throughout the remainder of the movie.

But yes, I agree that her character was played well. She showed that, even if you think you're top notch, you can knocked right back down when placed in a different environment.

I'll go with

Best Animated movie: Inside Out

Best Drama: Bridge of Spies

Best Action Movie: Star Wars

Best Picture: The Reverent

Best Whatever: Hateful Eight

Best Comedy: Sisters

Enjoyed Jurassic World and Avengers, but nothing truly special about them and would rate star wars as better action (completely opinion).
