I just thought again of that picture of Dorian.... I'm confused about the mythology, do I have it wrong or is this show trying to modernize/change it?
Isn't he some very old immortal. His picture/painting gets older, but his live body doesn't, and he can cure himself just by looking at it?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Picture_of_Dorian_Gray - the original dorian gray.
It started with a wish. “If it were I who was to be always young, and the picture that was to grow old! For that… I’d give my soul for that.”
His wish is granted, his soul is trapped in the painting and he finds that he has gained eternal youth and the painting ages in his place.
The painting not only ages, it also shows visible signs of his sinful life of corruption (it became uglier) and eventual murder.
The only difference is him healing in view of the painting. That wasn't in the original novel.
