Honestly glad I haven't read the books, I think I'm enjoying the show more because of that. I have all of them (that are out) and I plan to read them once the show finishes.

im not a book reader but i always though reading a book before watching a film is much better...not sure how can you enjoy it other way round ?

Don't rely on the series to be like the book... divide yourself in your expectations... if you do this, the book is different, and the show is also different, you basically have two entities... comparing can be cruel to your own expectations.

Yeah but I just think it sucks they change so much, some of my favorites characters are cut...

Imo reading the book without knowing is way better than watching the show without knowing

agreed, this way you can make your own mental picture of how the characters are. As soon as there is a real face and attitude attached to that story by putting it into motion picture, you will have direct association with that limited view that is not your own.

I've had too many movies/shows ruined for me because I'm an avid reader. The Hobbit being the most recent, I honestly think that movie might have been enjoyable had I not read the book, the movies bent the book over and raped it.

Yup, for example in the show Game of Thrones, Stannis is totally different from the books, in a bad way. In the show he seems impulsive and a douche bag where in the books he's calmer and calculating. And in the books Stannis doesn't know about the ''shadow baby'' who killed Renly, and that makes a huge difference with regard to his character.

But the show does some awesome stuff too. and most of the cast is awesome.

Sucks that we wont see some amazing characters like the Greyjoys brothers (uncles of Theon).

Just felt like I got the books too late. I had already watched the first three seasons before I bought them. I felt like I should just stick out the show before I started. Like you with Stannis, I didn't want to be frustrated with the way they portrayed a character (books always take precedence for my opinions, as they're the source material) or for leaving out characters/plot points, which I know they have already from the countless spoilers that get posted daily lol. I know the books are going to be terrific. I feel like I can watch the show and be amazed and then turn to the books once it finally ends and get double the enjoyment by having those once the show is finally concluded. I don't usually do things this way and I almost always read the book if a movie/show is based off one, I just thought I'd try it the other way this time. Maybe it'll help me be less snobish lol. I just felt like such an outcast/hater blah blah, with some of the shitty adaptions they've done in the past and I'm an opinionated person and usually find it hard keeping it to myself.

Yeah same for me, I watched the 4 seasons of GoT and then I started the books. I dont regret it at all, it made me understand a lot about the story

GoT is still one of the best adaptation from a book and I still enjoy it, I just grind my teeth when I see some shitty change like skeletons and a children of the forest throwing a fireball (wtf?) :D
