No one is forcing you to watch anything. If people's opinions have that much on an influence on your decisions, than you're a plain sheep.

Or he could watch the trailer and figure out if he wants to watch it by himself.

Regardless of what anyone has said about the movie.

Or he can just learn from past misstakes and avoid anything his friend with radically different taste finds enjoyable.

So at no point ever do two people with different tastes enjoy the same movie?

That's not what I said but if someone with confirmed vastly different taste than you recommend something then why the fuck would you watch it?
Sure there's a 1% chance of it actually being good but I usually don't do things that 99 times out of 100 is gunna be a complete waste of time.
