I would have done the same if I was in a theater. Watched it at home but had to break it into 2-3 parts

Anyways are we talking about personal top 10 movies of all time (as in our favourites) or the top 10 movies that can be regarded as the best of all time? Two completely different lists for me.


My favourites are:

1. The Dark Knight
2. The Wolf of Wall Street
3. Inception
4. Interstellar
5. Pulp Fiction
6. Saving Private Ryan
7. Batman Begins
8. Wall Street
9. The Prestige
10. Django Unchained


but I realize not many of them belong in a universal / objective list of top 10 all time great movies so that list would look something more like this:

Shawshank Redemption
The Godfather
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Titanic
The Godfather part 2
Schindler's List
Ben Hur
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
The Dark Knight
Lord of The Rings: Return of The King

I don't really understand what's going on in your post, the first list is the movies you like and the second list is the movies you think you should like?

First list is my subjective opinion, my personal taste. For instance I loved Fury, The Expendables, Transformers etc.. but they aren't good movies per say.


the second list is a more objective standpoint, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest or Titanic were boring for me, but I understand how the former was the only movie in history to win all five major oscars, while the latter shares the record for amount of oscars won by a single movie with LOTR:ROTK.


Shawshank Redemption personally for me is no where near the top 20 most enjoyable movies I've watched, but I fully understand and slightly agree with anyone saying its the best movie ever made. Its a master piece. Not my cup of tee, but a genuine master piece. Like the Mona Lisa or Venus De Milo.


Same with Citizen Kane... Timeless masterpiece everyone should watch.

Correct me if i'm wrong here but it sounds like you watched a bunch of stuff rated highly on various sites, didn't end up liking it as much as you thought you would and feel the need to justify your taste in a place like this which to me is ludacrisy, there's no such thing as objectively good film it's all opinion and yours is as good as anyone elses.

Oscars are awarded by a lobby with economic interests and political/social views that often bias their votings. It's not really the best way to judge a film (not to mention other circumstances, such as there are now more awards than before and that not all movies can make entries to winning the awards for "best sound effects", "best make up", "best costumes", etc).

I still like to differentiate my subjective opinion / taste with a more "consensus" list. E.g. "here's my five favourite films, so if your taste is similar to mine you might like X,Y &Z" buuut "film A, B & C are consistently ranked as the best movies ever, so you should watch this too".


I do the same with games, music, cars etc.

Not saying movies should be judged by Oscar awards but often are indicative of said movies quality. But not always.

Gravity was a piece of shit movie that put me to sleep, literally and that doesn't happen very often.
