essentially trailers make movies appear better than they are.
Simple marketing ploy, trailers should be a minor glimpse into what a movies about, nowadays they show "best bits" and some even reveal key plot elements.
Comedies are the worst, you've heard the best jokes several times before you sit down and watch the movie.
of course movie trailers generally lie about the product to an extent - that can be said about almost all advertising
But i don't go out and buy every product i see in every commercial - but i'm sure everyone has sorta fallen and been a victim to false advertising sometimes.
If it didn't fool people ever - would they be still doing it ?
Haven't you ever seen a trailer and the movie was actually better than the trailer - or it actually advertised how awesome it was - and it turned out it was actually awesome.
Im just saying there is a scale of deceit in advertising - and that eventually - we all get suked into something.
