Man, you guys are so jaded by Hollywood's bullshit, that you can't even notice when something different comes along...

I feel sorry for all of you.

Or Kevin Smith pumps out pseudo-intellectual drivel with the smarts of a high school freshman seeing YouTube videos that disagree with his parents' worldview for the first time and then changes his Facebook bio to describe himself as "deep" and "thought provoking."

Most of his ideas are good enough for the movie to work, but they're poorly executed as he shoves the meaning of the movie in your face and down your throat. Red State is a great example of this. I can get behind a movie where our main characters are abducted by a gun-toting cult. I can get behind a movie that satires religious fanaticism. I can get behind a movie with clever plot twists.

But Red State instead gives us "lol this movie is listed under horror and West Bapterz are bad." Smith then tells us what his movie is about, rather than shows us. If it weren't for the cast, this movie would have been fucking awful.

All of his movies are like this, whether it's Dogma or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. He gets a good premise going and good actors (including himself as Bob), but then can't write a script for shit.

He had one fantastic movie, Clerks, and didn't learn from it. "I made Clerks when Hollywood doubted me! I guess now I can do anything I want!"

Seriously, he's like the George Lucas of independent film.

You literally just have a problem with his style of film-making then. It's clearly not for you. I enjoy his style of humor and I think he did a great job with Red State at poking fun of West Baptist morons who have literally been protesting every single movie he has made. Which I find quite humorous.

I've been following this movie since it's inception, live on his podcast two years ago. I think it's fantastic, and I can't wait to see it.

Get a The Fly kind of vibe except with an antagonistic plot.
