Only watched the English version.

Decent movie, but one of the sickest plots I have seen in a long time.

Watched the original version last night on Netflix. The end twist was predictable but still really good movie, I enjoyed it.

Original was better but the American version surpassed my expectations. I thought they were trying to spell out the ending for the audience, the original was a little more subtle.

All depends on how you go into the movie. If you go in knowing it's got a super fucked up twist, then yes, it's going to be something that can be guessed. Same as the Usual suspects. Ff someone tells you it's a movie with an epic twist at the end, you're going to have a lot better chance at guessing it.

I didn't go in expecting a twist, but I did expect some gutwrenching scenes. What made it somewhat predictable for me was the antagonist, there had to be a reason for what he was doing and why he did what he had done. There would have been too many questions left unanswered if it didn't end the way it did.

It's really hard to not sound confusing without giving anything away for people who may have not seen it yet lol.

I've never seen the Japanese version of this movie, so I wouldn't be able to compare the two. I do have to say that I did enjoy this movie to a point. It is not something I'd watch again, but I guess it was worth watching to say the least.

I think there isn't a japanese version. It was a very popular korean version of the movie. Actually im pretty sure the korean version is the original version.

I thought this was a very well done remake.

Obv, Original will always be better, but the remake was better that I expected. It didnt ruin the legacy.

An intense ass movie. Saw the Korean version (with subs ofc) and then watched the English version to understand the theme and the dialogue fully.
I liked the English ending WAY better than the Korean one. Anyone else thought this was a good movie? The movie gave me a position where I would ponder on what I would do if I was in the same situation (the part about being trapped in a single room for 20 years).

anyone else have any thoughts about it?

Previously in this thread I posted I have not seen the Korean version, nor do I want to waste my time reading subtitles and miss the movie contents [it is a personal thing, don't worry]

Twenty (20) years is a very long time couped up, he also got over his addiction to alcohol and watched many reruns of Bruce Lee movies etc, he trained himself and excercised... can
this be really done without supervision, how much would you take in? Honestly it is very hard, even 20 years of constant training from TV shows you will not gain the intricasies of
using Martial Arts or any fighting techniques to the fullest, so, in the American version, he is taking on a number of Thugs, the thing that I don't understand, how did he learn about
his own physical limitations? Basically you can NOT learn about your physical limitations while being locked up for 20 years... basically... if you have a "Glass Jaw", you will always have
a "Glass Jaw" and get knocked out on first contact.

What would I do in the 20 years while I was locked up in a cell... yes, get over my addictions, also improve my fighting prowess to ensure that I would not get hurt, I will also help with
the speed in which I could mobilise myself in certain situations, as for the "Who Did This To Me List", I will just memerise the ones important at the time, If I failed in my attempt to escape,
and another one was put in front of me so simply, I would be suspicious and not go off course with my intentions... those would be:

1. Find those that imprisoned me
2. Remove them from the equation ... basically kill them all so this will never happen to a fellow human, also, free any captives as soon as possible.
3. Don't worry about the person who instigated this in the first place, don't go back to the past and friends, don't make any new friends, keep yourself a prisoner in the open world
4. Many situations will delve into more complex scenarios for the survival of this person... being it from past... he was alone when entering captivity and thus remain so.

korean movies are awesome, some movies are so fucked up that i can't imagine how the director even got the idea.

No Mercy was good too

I saw the devil was pretty cool too, has the korean oldboy actor as the antagonist in the movie, and the krn actor from GJ JOE movie is the protagonist.
