i disliked it. i havent read the books so i'm basing it just on the movie, and i typically find the movies hard to follow. i saw the lord of the rings trilogy but not the hobbit 1.

on the upside, the cgi/scenary was pretty good.

on the downside, it felt like nothing happened. the dwarves traveled far to steal something from the dragon, then the movie ends shortly after they arrive. wtf?

maybe you guys can answer my questions?

1) why did gandalf lead them to the forrest then just abandon them? looks like he summoned some guy to some "dark magic" place to talk? then teleported into enemy territory to get captured.

2) why did the hobbit come along? the dwarves wanted to go to the treasure room and they did. i dont understand the hobbit's role.

3) what's the hobbit doing with the ring? i assume this was part of the previous movie. i remember from LOTR frodo got the ring from someone and destroyed it

4) the "romance" between she-elf and dwarf felt really forced and quick. i assume it's a longer arc in the book?

5) what's the deal with the dragon? if he could escape and kill the town, why didn't he do it sooner? was he too lazy?

6) shortly after main-dwarf enters the treasure house, everyone gives up on the white jewel he's after. what the heck? i thought the whole point was to get the jewel

7) i thought elves were allies of gandalf? i remember lego fighting along with gandalf in LOTR. so why are they attacking the dwarves?

8) isn't gandalf supposed to be strong? why does he seem so weak?

2. The hobbit went alone to steal the arcenstone or whatever, cause he is a hobbot! He didnt knew the dragon was about to wake up
3. He found it in a dungeon in the hobbit 1 ( he kinda stole it from golum )
5. Its a dragon! When he fall asleep its for a while... ( thats a possibility )
6. There is a flipping dragon trying to kill them...fFUCK THE JEWEL
7. The hobbit is what happen before LOTR movies... Thats why.
9. Hes a wizar not Rambo x1000...

Was good, but i prefer the first one.  But i have to admit that the river rafting barrel chase was sooo awesome! :D.

You know they filmed this in the production of the first one but the river flooded. so they had to make it out of scratch and make the rest of it cgi.

No idea how you can say movie was bad cuz you were confused and also day you never saw the first. That is just an entirely new level of derp.

1) Gandalf had suspicions that Sauron was returning(which is wuy he encouraged the dwarves + hobbit to go slay smaug) he left to see how powerful the "enemy" had gotten. Also for proof of his suspicion as no one currently believes Sauron is back.

2) The hobbit is the stealth of the group. He was supposed to sneak into the chamber and get the king stone so thorin can rally the entire dwarven people to take back the mountain.

3) movie 1

4) invented for the movie. Also not really rushed at all...

5) he wasn't trapped nor does he care about the town. He was content being in his mountain of gold. Dragons love gold more than anything.

6) uh fire-breathing dragon?

7) movie 1

8) he is basically a mid-class angel in human body. Not weak. The necromancer aka Sauron is basically Satan. Not really a fair fight huh?

Haven't seen it yet. Not sure why Jackson felt the need to add so many fucking additional characters (that were not in the book) into the already best novel of the series. It really just doesn't make much sense, the movie would have been overly successful on it's own story. Making Gandalf a timid wizard who doubts himself and the mission (he's a god, that's stupid) along with adding in everything seems a little ridiculous. I'll watch it in the near future and I'm hoping I don't sigh nearly as heavily as I did, during the first installment.

i think you misread my post. the reason i stated for not liking the movie was that i felt nothing happened. right when it hits the climax that everyone's waiting for, it ended. it's like ending the matrix right after morpheus unplugs him and shows him the world's history. i havent read the book so i dont know what happens next, but based on the beginning of the film i would have preferred they cut a lot of it out, then have the dragon escape to the town about halfway through the movie, dragon can terrorize the town or whatever, get killed, then the dwarf gets his jewel and becomes the ruler of whatever he wanted to rule at the end.

since i didnt see the previous one, i was fully aware that i wouldnt understand everything. i just mentioned it being hard to follow to explain why i had questions. i do appreciate the answers to them, though. makes more sense now.

hmm i woulda preferred they leave it out entirely if it wasn't even part of the book. having the elf disobey the king to save a dwarf she bonded with after imprisoning him seems a bit silly.

They split 1 book into 3 movies so they could put in a lot of the back story of Sauron gaining power etc so you really have to look at it as a part of a bigger movie. It isn't like the LOTR books where there were 3 different books made into 3 different movies with 3 different clear story arcs.
