comedy/horror movies still manage to make me happy though.

Biased poll. You started the thread with a vote of your own, meaning that the fact that that option would have a one vote lead was inherently part of the premise of this poll in the first place, making it biased towards that vote. Plus you even worded one of the other options in such a way that it sounds like a stupid thing to vote for. Also "could happen in real life" is an argument for an option, not the option itself... your vote is the only one with an argument within the name of the option. Besides, disgusting mass blood-fest scenes could happen in real life.

Anyway, I think the best kind of horror scene to me is a claustrophobic scene. That is, being stuck in a dank cellar filling up with water, crawling through a vent that's heating up, etc. The garbage compactor scene in A New Hope was the scariest scene in all of Star Wars. That kind of thing isn't done enough in horror movies, IMO.

Practical effects are my niche. Sometimes a talented effects team, and director can create absurd visuals with over the top effects, or create a real sense of terror with subtlety. The director has a vision in mind, and what interests me most about horror, is how they bring that vision to the audience.

Main priority is that it's done well, I look for that the most and can appreciate any of those options.

i dont like gore. it's more gross than scary.

i like the kind that give you goosebumps, keeps it creepy and has you wondering where the enemy is. like in Alien. not so much the jump-and-stab films. unpredictable is also a plus.
