It is actually, because if he didn't pass it off as being psychic then he would have to explain how he figures everything out. A lot of the stuff he does is illegal, which would lead to the fruit of the poisonous tree defense in every single case he works.

I never get tired of this show and I dislike most modern television shows. They are about my age (making it relevant) and I enjoy all the obscure 80's and bigfoot references as well as all the 80's star guest appearances
It's a chill show that is not meant to be taken too seriously while being consistent with its wit and charm and hopefully it makes it to 10 seasons but even if it doesn't there are countless episodes that I never get tired of already in it's arsenal.

Also I find the psychic gimmick to be very necessary.

This is it to a tee. If you take this show seriously you won't like it, if you watch it to have fun and laugh then it's FANTASTIC!
