? Don't think it was supposed to be a comedy, but I could be wrong. Was some funnies at times but I thought it was pretty srs the other times

Redletter Media Reviews said it best. To paraphrase - There is comedy but there is very little when it comes to the topic of slavery. The horrible conditions that slaves had to endure during those times are sensitively and accurately depicted. The violence is very realistic and quite harrowing - in stark contrast to the comedic, over-the-top gore that is shown when one of the slavers is killed.
