Just saw this tonight. Such a nerve racking film. Pretty well made. They do a good job making you care about the guy despite him being a bit of a dick. Makes watching the climb really stressful.

Also the way they actually explain climbing and stuff is super interesting. Seeing the process of getting ready to free solo.

Dude, Honnold is anything but a dick. I didn't get to see the movie yet, but as a climber Honnold is a well known figure to me.

And what he did was nothing short of mindblowing. Most well trained climbers would take about 4days to climb El Cap with gear. He did it without gear in under 4hours.
To put that in perspective: I've been climbing for about 3.5 years, pretty intensively for the past 2. I might be able to climb a single pitch (about 100feet) on toprope of the route he did (Freerider).

Being well known doesn't mean he is a good person. Objectively, the way he treats people and acts, he is a bit of a dick.

I'm not saying he's a good person because he's well known. I'm saying I'm fairly surprised with anyone calling him a dick, as I'm pretty familiar with his character.

Like I said, I'm familiar with Honnolds character, through many interviews, podcasts, his work through his foundation, ... He comes across as a hardworking, driven but also humble man.

The only thing I can think of might be his 'selfishness', risking his life despite his loved ones. Seen similar comments on facebook. Can only disagree with that. His mom has always been supportive of him and his girlfriend only showed up after he was a famous free soloist.

I'm not going to bother talking to you until you see the movie. No point in having a conversation with someone who is already extremely biased, especially when they have only seen a public image.

The documentary shows how he really is and how he acts in public and they are completely different characters.
