This movie was AWFULLLLLLL 1 star. It couldn't have butchered the original show any worse. First off, L in the movie was a complete nerd rager who was uncomposed and not very logical. not to mention he's literally a black ninja in this movie (not racist, just saying). L's character was THE MOST disappointing....like take a chill pill bro. why do they always have to include stereotypes and make the black guy so angry and impulsive. Light, on the other hand, was almost as bad. he was complete spazz in this movie with no brain. Like why bother mentioning how bright he is and not show any of it in the movie? Both characters were completely different from their original counterparts. They're both supposed to be calm, level headed, and rational, but still goal oriented. The original death note was a show about wits and outplaying one another, yet this movie was just a bunch of coincidences and random conclusions. oh yea don't get me started on how stupid ryuk looks. it's crazy how the original japanese live action had better cinematics.

i can't believe how bad it was...like i wasn't expecting it to be remotely good but wow, it's terrible.

i was expecting some "oh shit" moment or some sick plot twist... but no it was just a movie of crazies and spazzes.

Without a doubt this movie was a 0/10. About as fucking bad movies can be.

Nothing was done correctly, nothing was done interestingly, nothing was even cool looking. The story was bad, the acting was horrendous, the motives were fucking idiotic, the direction the characters took made no sense, and even simple things like how a school goes about punishing people who cheat was done incorrectly. Every single aspect of this movie was just fucking awful. I understand that you want to be different than your source material, I understand that you feel you need to "Americanize" or whatever it is the fuck you think you're doing, but if you're going to change every single aspect that made the show work in the first place, just don't fucking do it.... There's no point to it. Go ahead and make something similar, but call it something different. Use different names, call the notebook "Killy McBook of Death", because that's about how creative and original the rest of the shit you added was.

I couldn't agree more with OP on how idiotic it was that both Light and L were as stupid as they were. You've got two of the smartest characters in anime history and you turn around and make them both into fucking idiots who don't ever know what they're doing, but shit just happens and that's okay? Also, you're right about Ryuk. Nearly 20 years ago they can make this guy look awesome by drawing him, but today with everything at their disposal, they not only make him look just fucking awful, but for some reason fat and lazy as well lol.

Ugh. Yep. I knew it would be awful, but I just didn't know it would be this bad. I'm not sure, this might be worse than the USA's take on DBZ lol. It's right up there in terms of terribleness imo.

While death note is a bad movie and got basically everything wrong and tried to make up for it with fan service, at least it got the basic story down and is a fine/serviceable movie to the random movie goer.

DBE and TLA are just.....
