http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warcraft_film

In recent years, there has been a rash of fantasy movies popping up. They have simplistic stories and are basically just a weak excuse to show off what kind of CGI monsters artists can cook up. Examples of what I mean are:

Snow White and the Huntsman
Hansel and Gretel : Witch Hunters
Jack the Giant Killer
Seventh Son
Clash of the Titans (2010)
Hercules (2014)
Oz the Great and Powerful
Dracula Untold

These movies are bad ofc, but probably profitable enough to justify making. This is the my first thought for how the Warcraft movie might be classified.

Do you see it being something else? If so, what other movies do you think it could be comparable to, in terms of how ambitious they are at trying to give it some depth?

There's no way it's gunna be good, millions of WoW fans are gunna watch it regardless of what reviews it gets etc so why bother making a good film?

Brand is very strong so just make something average and release a bunch of limited edition blu-rays and cashflow is a fact.

Atleast Resident Evil 1 and Max Payne who were both quite decent videogame adaptions had workable concepts (Zombies and Neo-Noir) but fantasy epic genre is watered down like nothing else.

Been waiting for something like this. Probably going to be amazing. If it's anything like their in game cinematics it will be amazing.

A friend of mine told me about this months ago, I was like; it's going to suck.

They cannot make it as good as the game, having all the storylines and so forth.
And this game might have a much bigger group of followers than any other "game turned into a movie".
Ofc they'll make alot of money, ofc many fans wont like it but ofc some will.

It's a buisness.
Similar to this; if you get X credit card, you get Y amount of points only if you already have the W card. Then you cancel the X credit card and still keep the points.
The companies know most ppl will take advantage of this, purely for the points, but they still make a huge profit from the small amount of ppl who do not cancel the X credit card.

I don't think it is fair to already have the mindset that it will suck.

As movie viewers, it is partly our responsibility to have the understanding that producers can't replicate large lore stories into sub. three-hour long movies.

I think it's more fair to rate a movie by entertainment value before rating on a quality scale.

I get that they are capitalizing on an established brand to make a profit, but that doesn't really have anything to do with what kind of movie it will be. They've been writing Warcraft Lore novels for many years. Blizzard aspires to make this a successful series of films. I think that something along the lines of the Hobbit series is what they are hoping for.

Do you think this movie will turn out like Prince of Persia? If it does, that would certainly be below expectations. Is there another movie you think is closer to how the Warcraft movie will look?

I understand.
But I didn't read anywhere that they plan to make this a movie similar to the LOTR. And even if they do, the storyline for Wc is ever changing, has been evolving for decades now.
Personaly, I disslike when a movie of a game is made without the proper storyline or finishing.

It could be good, but not to my standards. Wont be like LOTR, that I can be sure of.

e - As I said before, it's a buisness, mass money can be made from it, so why the hell not.
It's not as if someones is sitting down writting a new plot and then turning it into a movie, like most movies. This will be much easier.

I treat movies as a business and as a form of entertainment before I treat it as "art," so I am to lightly judge movies based on entertainment value. If I truly don't care for a movie, it's not the end of the world.

It's obvious that warcraft has an enormous age of lore, but the producers have to start somewhere and pull material where they see fit and throw together what will hopefully be a close to three hour long movie as there hasn't been a mention of multiple movies.

What will be interesting to see is how "live action" will feel given that, for those of us who have played WoW, have watched animated movies instead of live action.

The best thing that can happen, is to stray away from the movie being corny. That would ruin it, for sure.

they should've started out with a d3 movie,
cos they'd prolly be more successful than the game itself, and then move onto wc! huehue
