Why the fuck, years after the kaijus started walking, would people still be living on cities that are on the the pacific coast?

Stupid movie was stupid. shitty plot, great special/sound effects is all.

After the guys brother dies that was sort of the beginning to the demise of the Jaegers. iirc they just had the 4 left because they were the best. And theres like a 5 year period between these 2 points.
All I know if it was real life id be packing up and going to Colorado or some shit. As for watching it again I think ill pass
