game of thrones - kings and their armies fighting for control of a mystical kingdom called westeros. great script, storyline, visuals.
sons of anarchy - biker gang in california. lots of violence, great script, storyline.

boardwalk empire - organized crime in atlantic city in the 1920's during the american prohibition. lots of politics, great story, script. this show is one step above your average mob show / movie.
the sopranos - organized crime show. italian mob in new jersey. dont expect a tonne of violence. there is, but this is more of a drama. people who love this show have come to really appreciate the daily life of the show and the characterization.

spartacus - slaves rebel during the time of the republics height in power in ancient rome. dont expect a well thought out script or storyline. expect lots of blood/guts, violence, sex scenes.
blue bloods - your typical cop show. revolves around a family of NYC cops. very family orientated, i just like it because i want to be a cop and its got a happy element to it.
id recommend all of the above. there all worth the watch. the slashes represent my opinion of their quality in tiers
