Breaking Bad > Dexter, but they're both excellent shows

agreed

the first 4 seasons of Dexter are really solid though, the following seasons are somewhat inferior..

Breaking bad can do no wrong imho

Breaking Bad, even though it's gone downhill a bit.

Dexter is a good show, but not amazingly written or anything. It's more for cheap entertainment than anything else. If you can look past the narration that's meant for 5 year old kids with no attention span whatsoever, and the many completely one dimensional character, it gets pretty fun to watch. However, like others say, it gets pretty bad in around the "second half". (Basically after the great season with John Lithgow, the show takes a giant plunge downhill and never really recovers.)

I strongly recommend Breaking Bad over Dexter.

On the other hand, you want the main character in BB to die of a horrible death after 4 seasons.

I find the main character of both shows completely detestable. The only difference is that I don't see the writers of Breaking Bad constantly trying to convince me that he's actually some hollywood hero. They pull off the moral ambiguity of their character much more brilliantly.
