Description: Gaming, Photoshop/CAD, Video Editing, etc. and Budget
Budget: $3,000
More specific use (what games, what programs): Diablo IV, Subnautica, Diablo II: LoD (new), Prey, work multitasking, probable Photoshop
Planned time until purchase: ASAP
Do you need an Operating System?: Yes, Windows (unsure what versions are even available)
Do you have any specific preferred components?: I would prefer to utilize a large central monitor with two smaller monitors on the side for work multitasking. It would be nice to have a large central monitor, such as 30 or 32". The largest I have ever used was 27" in a multiscreen setup and I loved it. I would probably be gaming on the central monitor only while using the other two for multitasking. I understand that the two extra monitors would take away from my budget so I am in no hurry to secure them. I would rather focus on a large central monitor. I do not have any specific requirements other than an appropriate refresh rate for gaming. I am not really into RGB colors.
Case: Man. I haven't researched cases since 2017. Prefer cable management with slots for multiple SSD's and possibly some HDD's. I haven't looked at prices but I plan on purchasing one or two large SSD's for everyday gaming/work use. I would also be purchasing some large HDD for movie storage and therefore speed wouldn't necessarily be an issue, just reliability. I remember reading on here a long time ago about a study one of the members here did regarding reliability. I think Seagate came out on top? I'm unsure. Long time lurker haha.
Motherboard: I haven't built a PC since 2012 so I know little about current standards or options. I would need appropriate slots for at least 2 SSD and at least 2 HDD.
Ram: 4 slots would be ideal so I could use 4x 8GB. Correct me if this isn't standard anymore.
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: Probably not as I plan on purchasing an expensive pair of headphones after researching desired specs
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: I do not plan on overclocking. I will not be utilizing a custom water cooling setup. It's much more likely I will be purchasing a quality air cooler or AiO liquid cooler with or without radiator
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: I will need a monitor, mouse and keyboard. However, I have a Razer Naga Chroma that's currently sitting at around 3 years old and still going strong. If I were to purchase a new mouse it would need to have a similar button layout on the side such as what the Naga Chroma has. I don't imagine I could go back to a normal mouse. I would prefer wireless though with the ability to charge in some sort of charging cradle. Keyboard does not need to be wireless and I suspect that I wouldn't want a wireless keyboard. I have no idea how long a charge lasts in current wireless keyboards. I wouldn't waste your time. If there are keyboards on the market that are similar to the old Dell keyboards from the early 2000's I would be interested. I don't know how to describe the feel of them but I know I loved typing on one.
Router: I'm using Charter Communications or Spectrum, whichever it's called now. I'm going to run ethernet to the PC from the router. I just moved to a new city for work. My roommate has an HTPC hooked up in the living room to the current router the ISP provided us. I believe I would either need a router with multiple ethernet ports or a switch to include with it. I'll also be running ethernet to my PS5.
Printer: Lord help me. I use Apple products and would like one with the ability to print over network from both Apple and Windows. I don't even know where to begin with the printer. I don't print often but I do when I am in a jam and can't get to a professional printer service. This does not need to be included in the budget. My work is going to be purchasing this for me. I just don't want to waste money on something that's not going to work for both.
Desk: If you guys know anywhere I can find a 30"x96" desk that's not from IKEA I am all ears. Otherwise I suspect I am going to have to go the butcher block route and have some nice steel legs fabricated (thanks Etsy).
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 63129
I'm not a heavy gamer but I would like the ability to play Prey on max settings. It's a beautiful game and I would really enjoy experiencing it on a nice monitor.
Thanks guys!
