Hey all,
I recently upgraded my computer with a new RTX 3070TI from an SLI GTX 970.
I saw a lot of performance upgrades but wanted more.
Just installed a new i9 comet lake 10850k, 32gb DDR4 RAM, MSI MPG z590 Gaming Force Motherboard, and a really nice liquid cooler. Everything else I kept the same, except this time I bought a key for Win 10 Pro and installed it on my NVME SSD and holy crap is this thing fast. I was using a I7 6700k and 16bg or RAM before.
Is there anything else I could expect that would be much better with the new setup aside from playing Starcraft 2 without lagging? I am going to reinstall Humankind and give that a try again as well.
I'm still using 2x 27 inch 1080p monitors and would really like a 4k one. Must be 27 inches, preferably around the $250 range.
I'll be able to upgrade to Windows 11 as well, I'm not sure if it will be worth that leap though. Thanks for any help or suggestions.
Oh goodness, you just opened up a whole new world. SC2 isn't anything to your setup.
First, please upgrade your main monitor. I like ultrawide 1440p 144hz for price: performance but you won't regret going 4k if you have the cash for it. Make sure it's a fast response time (budget 4k monitors may have input lag).
As far as what you'll notice improvements on, rendering and video editing come to mind. If you're not into that, look for a few cinematic games you enjoy. I love Doom (2020) for a cinematic shooter and Elden Ring for RPG. If you're exclusively into RTS games I don't have any recommendations and SC2 is definitely hard to match for speed and style but I'm sure you can find something that will push your system harder.
When shopping for monitors I'd recommend looking at brightness as well, it was my only regret. Found a great monitor for a great price but it ended up being a bit dim in a bright room during daylight hours
