So I heard a loud pop and my computer just died would not turn on. My electrical outlet did not trip so was not overloaded. I went and bought a new 850 w power supply. Now I hook it up the lights on my mobo come on and my skill cards light up it has power. My graphic card light indicates it is on however it does not read the hdmi I put into it nor do the fan run

So if I remove the graphics card the computer runs but if I plug it in the motherboard won't run nor will the fans. The graphics card does have a light on indicating it has power when it's plugged in

When you say "computer runs", are we to assume that you can get into Windows and you see everything thru the motherboard's video port?

And then when you plug your GPU back into the motherboard, and try to run video from the GPU, you get nothing? If this is the case, take out the GPU, turn your computer on to get to BIOS and ensure it is running the GPU slot in its correct mode or auto mode, shut down, plug GPU back in (including video to the GPU) and see what happens.

It is also possible your GPU is not fully functional and it still will show the power light on. Because power light is just power. It'll sense electricity running thru but other parts of the GPU can be dead, like the video ports or other parts of the GPU's board.

Or your motherboard's GPU slot is dead. This can be confirmed by using a GPU that you know for certain is fully functional.

i chased down the issue the gpu harness. maybe when the cap blew on the PSU it shorted it possibly but changed it and worked
