Looking to upgrade my gpu.

Currently I use 2x msi Gtx 970 in sli. I found a brand new msi RTX 3070 TI for 800. I’m tired of lagging games like Starcraft 2 because the gpu can’t keep up, obviously sli support didn’t work out like I was hoping 9 years ago when I bought the sli setup.

Would the RTX 1070 TI handle any modern games on at least medium settings? 1080p only. Also what kind of performance upgrade should I expect over the sli setup?

Interested to know everyone’s thoughts.

There's no RTX 1070 Ti...I'm going to assume you meant RTX 3070 Ti. And if that is the case, then yes, it should handle 1080p at Medium...maybe even High.

But I think think the main question is - does your motherboard have a PCIe Gen3 slot for the new GPU?

Woops thats the wrong one, this is the one I have. Definitely has 3.0 so it wont be as nice as a 4.0 motherboard but it will work. https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813130978

Just bought this video card https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-rtx-3070-ti-rtx-3070-ti-suprim-x-8g/p/N82E16814137665?Item=N82E16814137665

I have a 3070 and play everything at max setting 1080p 144Hz. The GPU doesn’t seem to mind; temperatures rarely change from CPU under load. I’m going to buy a 1440p monitor soon because I know the 3070 will handle it just fine.

Gtx 1070ti will run any modern game at 1080p.

Also StarCraft 2 will lag with any gpu.

u srly should consider a monitor upgrade with this card.
1080p isn't what this card is made for.

You Can check on google.
Search : Gamename minimum requirements.

( but also keep in mind ) Games like Path of exile - Even though they have a low minimum requirement to play the game.
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 650 Ti or ATI Radeon™ HD 7850 or better.

Some of the end-game players that have faster/better builds will require Graphics cards like a GTX 1080 just to run on the lowest settings to reach 60fps ( not to mention updates over time )
Its getting to the point where you almost need a GTX 1080TI.

Comparing a GTX 1080 TI to 3070TI : 22% Boost
Comparing a GTX 1080 TI to 3080 : 52% Boost
Comparing a GTX 1080 TI to 3080TI: 71% Boost

To Be very honest though, the 3070TI is a decent upgrade option if on a budget.
WIll allow you to play any game on Low settings for 60-80 FPS
Mid settings for 43-58 fps
This is assuming your only using 1 monitor, and not recording/streaming.

If your Looking for High/Ultra at 60/80 FPS+
You may want to look into this.
$1299
EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 12GB GDDR6X PCI Express 4.0 ATX Video Card 12G-P5-4877-KL
They just released a January 2022 Edition of the card, going from 10GB to 12GB of ram !
