heyo,

i'm currently shopping around to potentially upgrade my main PC & hand down the parts to my 2nd PC, depending on which route i decide to take.
at this point, i feel like the gpu isn't really a feasible option to upgrade, so i have a few routes im thinking of going but would like some feedback.

1) upgrade ram from 32gb to 64gb. if im running a lot of clients in games, should i bump up to either 64 or 128?
2) upgrade cpu, thinking of changing to amd. suggestions? if this route, will need new mobo as well, so need suggestions on that too :p
3) would upgrading from 860 evo to 970 evo be the play also? thinking i want more space, not sure the difference between 970 evo / 970 evo pro / 970 evo plus

main pc

i7 7700k
evga gtx 1080 8gb
32gb 3200 ddr4 crucial ballistix ram
msi z270-a pro mobo
samsung 860 evo

will get 2nd comp specs in a bit
ty!

What exactly is your use case to even think you need 64/128GB RAM? I run dual monitors with games and other software running and 32GB is enough. Just periodically check your resources to see if you even hit 28+GB RAM during your day to day use.

You can upgrade your CPU to an AMD, but keep in mind that it's going to be the last socket. In other words, if a new AMD CPU comes out, you'll most likely have to change the motherboard. So might as well go as high as your budget allows now so it'll last you many years. Start with Ryzen 5800X and X570 chipset. Want to go lower - search for less than 5600X or lower and B550 chipset.

Your motherboard supports only one M.2 slot at PCIe Gen3, so 970 Evo Plus is a good choice. You can also add on more 2.5" SSD like 860.

Nothing wrong with your picks. But do get a good CPU cooler. The power draw and its heat when CPU speed spikes up, is fucking ridiculous.

Crucial Ballistix is a good brand and model.

Your Corsair H100 should be good enough. I think those are two fans (240mm or 280mm).

ye i actually have 4 fans on the radiator rn, 1 on the back of the case, 3 on the front, so cooling overall is good rn
