- Hello lads, I'm looking to build a new rig, and looking for help. I'm slightly out of touch with PC components these days (but have been doing some light research lately). I do realize some parts have been consistently OOS or marked up.

- I actually went back and found my old thread here from 2014. My current PC is approaching 7 years. Here is the PC that JSP helped me build 7 years ago: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/nHJGdC ( helped me pick the parts <3)
From this original build, I HAVE upgraded my PSU to a Corsair TX850M - everything else is as shown.

Desktop
Budget: $2000 CAD
More specific use: Gaming (FPS games like EFT, ARPG games like POE, possible MMO like New World, etc.) + some light video editting and graphic work (but nothing intensive so I probably shouldn't even mention it)

Planned time until purchase: Within 1-2 weeks, but with PC parts these days, would be willing to buy immediately if need be.

Do you need an Operating System?: No

Do you have any specific preferred components?: Intel is preferred but I am open
Do you need a sound or wireless card?:
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: Upgraded cooling
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: No
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): Ottawa, Ontario

Any help is MUCH appreciated.

Swap CPU/MOBO/RAM/GPU

x570
Ryzen 5600x or 5800x
2x8gb 3600mhz ram
RTX 3070 or so

Not sure if PCpartpicker is always great for Canada, can't recall.

purchasing a GPU is gonna be tough, they're overpriced due to lack of supply and shipment. Right now 3070ti for 1.6k is the best deal atm. Doesn't leave much room for anything else.

If 970 still works for the games you're playing, i'd just upgrade the CPU/mobo/ram etc. and then buy a GPU later on if you really need it.

5600g is only $320 right now, or 5600x is the popular one but it's 360+ CAD
Intel isn't great to buy rn, they're pretty much filler/milking shit to barely keep up with ryzen til they release 7nm chips in 2023. However by then, amd would probably come out with something too.

as for mobo, make sure you get a mATX size board to fit into your case.

as for the ram: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/products/memory/#U=4&Z=16384002&sort=price&page=1

lowest latency (NS) the better = (higher mhz and lower CAS) with ryzen CPU you'd want at least 3200mhz (higher the better with your ryzen cpu 3600 etc.) though. Pick the ram that's cheapest, best performance or if you care about aesthetics buy the ram that fits your build for slightly more $.

i would also get 1tb NVMe SSD, they're very affordable these days. EFT, New World, POE all would benefit a lot from it (significantly reduces load times)
Just make sure the new mobo you buy supports NVMe SSD

Thanks for the recommendations guys. I’m in a stock drop group so I’m going to try to purchase the GPU (hopefully at MSRP or close to it) and work out from there.

My other option is to wait a year for pricing/supply to regulate

Definitely try to secure a GPU first if you're looking to upgrade soon. If not, you can always get a CPU, motherboard, RAM, and NVME SSD first and keep the GTX 970 while you hunt down a faster GPU.

Keep in mind that new Intel CPU's are coming out some time in Q4 of 2021, and AMD is supposed to upgrade to a whole new socket next year, with a possibility of some refreshed version of AM4 CPU's (5600x & 5950x?) this year. Even with new CPU's on horizon, you can't go wrong with the current ones, especially the ones offered by AMD.

I JUST got this yesterday for MSRP, have not come back to update this thread yet

I'm a bit busy with work today but I've decided to re-use some of my old parts as well. I'm going to update a complete list (soon) of what I have and go from there. Right now it's looking like I'll need new RAM/MOBO/CPU and maybe a case

How much of your $2000 CAD budget is remaining after purchasing your GPU?

I got it for MSRP so about $750 (but I can go slightly more if I absolutely have to. I definitely do not want to bottleneck the GPU)

Aside from the GPU, I currently have:

PSU: TX850M — 850 Watt 80 Plus® Gold (about 9 months old)
SSD: WD Black NVMe SSD 500GB
Cooling: Corsair H100i 77 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Hard Drive: Actually I forget what this is lol. It's 1TB, will need to open PC and look at label to remind myself. Not really in need of an upgrade here
Case: NZXT S340 Mid Tower Case

All of the above I do intend to install, unless you guys see any issues

What I need:
MOBO
RAM
CPU
POSSIBLY a new case, I would be very open to suggestions here (I believe my case should be compatible but I worry about sag)
