So I have a hp gaming laptop it’s about 3 years old now. One of the fans went out over a year ago and I replaced it with a matching fan and other than that I haven’t had any problems with it. Well I go to boot it up this morning and I get the black screen of death so I initially do the Windows + B + power button to try and fix it and the screen pops up it restores my BIOS then goes back to black screen so I’m like fuc ok I restart it press esc on startup so I can restore it to its last functioning w/e it’s called ( F11 or F9 ) ok that still doesn’t work so I run the diagnosis and it says something like bad HDD in bay two so again I’m like fuc that’s 50$ to fix so my last hail Mary before ordering a new HDD was to reset the entire laptop and wipe the HDD since there’s nothing necessary important on there that I couldn’t get back, and bam it works again laptops like new. So my question is, did I maybe have to much data stored on it and it’s still in okay condition or do you think I should sell it now while it “appears” to perfectly fine? Idk I paid $1200 for it and it’s worth $600 now retail but if I get a black screen again and am not able to fix it it’ll be worth like $20 ya know and I just feel like it’s living on borrowed time now. Thoughts? How long do hp gaming laptops typically go for? I’ve played lots of fortnite / counter strike / ran 8+ bots on d2 for weeks straight / used for school etc so it’s definitely taken a lot of abuse ever since it’s been taken out the box. If I don’t end up selling it right now I’ll definitely be replacing the HDD anyways and upgrading the RAM I have an extra slot for an additional 8gb ram card that I never decided to utilize, never even noticed it till I fixed the fan lol idk why they put it there when they don’t recommend you to open the laptop in fact it is extremely difficult to remove the shell off mine. Long story short can I play some fortnite on it tonight without causing serious damage or is it worth a try?
maybe just dont beat on it so hard and it'll be fine? give it some more time like 6 months and then see. If you want to sell it just do that instead, though people hate buying used items for this very thing lol. also replace hdd with ssd
