Is it worth self building a laptop? Or better to just order one? Got $1000 specifically to get a laptop. Looking for suggestions as well.

It’s no really a Thing to build your own laptop the motherboards are specifically made with the case it would be hard to swap out parts nobody really does it best to buy Premade gaming laptop and then adding external devices such as cooling pads And storage Or extended batteries would be the customizable options.

When purchasing a laptop, I highly recommend getting an Intel i7 or AMD Ryzen7, and also 16GB RAM. I've used laptops with Intel i5 and they tend not to last long into the future because the laptop tends to run slower as software and the Windows 10 gets upgraded. 16GB is meant for having multiple windows/software open. Even for my business laptops, I struggle with an Intel i5 and 8GB RAM.

I'm not sure what purpose you have for the laptop but for either casual/business or gaming use, I still strongly recommend i7/Ryzen7 and also 16GB RAM.

You will find that the customization options are limited. I always end up spending more than 2k on gaming laptops though.

yeah this isn't for gaming, i have a desktop for that. More for work, so like: multiple internet windows, email, powerpoint, video editing (nothing super intense, just chopping clips and putting music to it, stuff like that), HD zoom, etc.

If someone could help with some links to a laptop in the $1000 range that could do well at those things (and be somewhat future proof for several years to come) that would be awesome.

Considering your use/purpose is casual, the one you picked out will be ok.
