Hi forum,

I’m looking to get back into playing D1, D2 LoD, and D2R (once released) in my spare down time (Woohoo!)

I haven’t had a computer for a long time, since I stopped gaming years ago. I currently have an iPhone and iPad and they are sufficient enough for business/personal use.

I am cheap and low on supplemental income at the moment (Woohoo!). I definitely don’t want to spend a bunch of cash on a new laptop just for occasional gaming (maybe 1 hour a day max, 7 hours a week total I would guess).. My brother, being the real champ he is, gave me his old laptop to help me out.

I’m wondering how viable this laptop will be for playing D1, D2 LoD, D2R. Please keep in mind I am so far from tech savvy and so far from being a computer guy. I literally know nothing. Based on google searches, this is the information I found on my laptop:

Model: HP ProBook 4520s
Potentially made in 2010
Intel Core i5 430M Processor (2.26GHz, 3MB cache)
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) - I believe my brother installed Windows 10
15.6-inch LED-backlit anti-glare HD display (1366 x 768)
Intel GMA HD Integrated Graphics
4GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
320GB 7200RPM HDD
LightScribe DVD+/-RW Optical Drive
Atheros AR9285 BGN Wifi, Bluetooth 2.1, 1Gb LAN
6-Cell 47WHr Battery
Local Disk (C:) shows 381 GB free of 448 GB

All I will really use it for is the gaming. My iPhone and iPad will be for everything else business/personal. I guess the only important things about this laptop in regards to what I really want is good game speed and good graphics.

Please assist this cheap, tech illiterate person (me)

Thanks in advance!!

/edit

Also, is there anything I can do (free or relatively inexpensively) to assist in making this laptop more suitable as far as game speed and game graphics goes?

this computers intergrated graphics are rated to dx10. im sure you are aware how outdated this is, also its not really built for gaming either... that being said u may be able to run some games on the very lowest settings and lowest resolutions but you wont be getting more than 20-25fps. d2r will prolly stuggle to run on this even on lowest settings and if you do manage to get modern AAA to run your laptop will most likely overheat 10-15 into playing. this computer is made for office use it has a dual core.

edit* there are no upgrades aside from an external graphics card which isnt recommended b/c ur processor would bottleneck it.

I’m looking at a local sale listing for a “gaming computer” online. Here are the specs he’s posted:

“ MSI PE60-6QE | Gently used gaming laptop “

Specs:

intel i7 6700hq
Gtx 960m
DDR4 12gb Ram
1TB HDD

How would this one fare?

like 2000% better whats the price? id say thats about 350-500$ the processor upgrade alone will give you like 100% better performance added a gpu even tho its like 8 years old it will still run new games at med-high settings. dont pay more than 500$ for that cuzz you may as well save your money to buy a new computer.

That one was 500 CAD (I’m in Canada)

What about this one? It is the most expensive but it looks the most promising? I have no idea..

this is pretty decent but low storage. definately a step up from the msi but you will need to add storage 256gb nvme ssd will make your computer fast but is not enough space for games and u will fit maybe 1-2 games on the hard drive. all you would need is a external hard drive to store your games on which will run you around 100$

Either get a junk one (like brother gave you) or actually spend some money on something good.

Idk why everyone wants to buy minimum spec things and then be mad in 1 year when another game comes out that they can't play.

I'd keep the one brother gave you & save up until d2r comes out and buy the best that you can then.
