hello guys,

today my brother hit me up asking for parts. I figure I'd help with with some research. His mobo was starting to burn apparently and now is going to rebuild his PC.

Budget is around 1k, I think he can probably spend less since he doesn't really play computer games, but he said he would get a GPU since they keep going up. Does not need monitor, keyboard, mouse, operating system.

So he is looking for:

Case
CPU
RAM
GPU
MoBo
Maybe after market cooler? I'll toss it by him.

Not really sure what is good anymore since I have been out of the loop for some time. Any help is appreciated!

it helps to start with your graphics card cpu and motherboard for compatibility and availability purposes. Since things are a little overpriced right now you may want to consider a prebuild because building your own computer right now is going cost you like 2k easily.
*edit building a computer with a 1000$ budget is possible but you will have to get some lesser hardware. like you could get a really low end gpu like a 1030 gt or get lucky on a aftermarket gpu. If you can get your hands on 1660 gtx or 1060 for like 250-300 then that could be good.

I knew there was a problem with GPUs, but there are also issues with CPU and Motherboards too? Crap.... that stinks.

My brother went to bestbuy and the selection was not good. Is the demand for these parts driving up the prices or cryptocurrency mining? or both those things?

I don't think (or at least from what I see) there's issues with CPU and motherboard availability. All that was stated was to start focusing/prioritizing your GPU, CPU and motherboard.

Items are overpriced, starting with the GPU being heavily overpriced. Motherboards (from what I see) are now typically $10-50 USD more expensive.

As for the primary cause/reason of these GPU heavily overpriced, it's the demand. And the COVID pandemic certainly didn't help with production/manufacturing. I believe the production/manufacturing is now back at their usual capability but the backlog and demand is just too high. This was confirmed in an investor meeting for either NVidia or TSMC. I forgot which.

reasons for computer parts being overpriced or hard to find.

1. scalping
2. crypto mining
3. cold war
4. Taiwan drought
5. china
6. pandemic
7. insane demand
8. greedy tech companies, silicon valley.
9. California politics and the war against american workers
10. china

all that vs you trying to build a gaming computer
