Depends on use and rest of hardware.
But 5 > 3 if you need a math lesson.

basically if you know to OVERCLOCK, id go with the i3, pretty much the same preformance as the i5.
the i3 has gpu, incase you dont have one, youl have to get it with the i5.

unless you plan to video edit, or stream, or any program that needs more CORES, then defiantly the i5

Hi.

To be honest, it will depend on how you use your computer.

If you want a Gamer PC, with higher performance and want to put a good Video card there, well, go for I5.

If you want a PC just to play, for example, league of legends... so the I3 would be a good choise for you.

Recently I helped a friend to build a Pc with an I3 processor and he loved it. So, either will work for you, since you understand and know how you would use your machine :P

thanks for your help. build my son's first pc. he's 12 so let's say he should be average.
msi board on 32 gb ddr4 2666 lga 1151
msi geforce gtx 1650 4gb
256 + 512 ssd so far
just was confiused about cpu so lest do i5

i literally have this setup it was with an i3 9100f and i just upgraded to a i5 9400f.

video card next but even with the i3 it would play everything albeit some things at low gfx ^^
