I'm really just wanting to play decent settings on Destiny 2 with a friend, so I don't need a crazy card, but the one I have just won't cut it.

My current specs:

MSI R6950 Twin Frozr II 2GB
Intel Core i5-2500K
ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3
G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Right now I'm looking at the sapphire rx 580 on newegg for 190.00, but Idk.
I'd also love to get 16 gigs total, but I'm unsure on what I should use with the 2x sticks I currently have, aside from just buying the same thing.

Any info would be amazing as I would love to do this within the next day or two.

I checked GSkill's site, can't find ANY 1600Mhz RAM compatible with your board. So I checked Corsair's Memory Finder, and you're in luck...

For the vid card... what resolution are we shooting for? What res are your monitor(s)?

Its a big one but I don't mind resizing Destiny 2 and using a lower res.

Well, with a screen that's 2560 x 1080, you could look at faster vid cards, with say... only 6GB of vRAM.
I always end up choosing Nvidia cards. They seem to have better drivers, and just all round less hassle.

He's saying that a more powerful vid card will not be able to fully, "show it's stuff" because the 2500K will limit the GPU.
This ofc is true. BUT, I always like to go for the higher end vid cards, even though it may be overkill on THIS build. That way when you eventually upgrade the "rest" of the computer, you won't have to re-upgrade the GPU again.

In fact, if the budget allows, I would even consider an RTX 2060 Super, which is about twice as fast as the AMD RX 580.

I like learning stuff. Why would the 2500k limit the gpu?

Cause it's OLD. It just doesn't have the oomph to keep up with the new GPUs.

Sort of like a 20 year old girl and a 50 year old man. The girl will have to slow down, so the man can keep up. :D

Just Google: Intel 2500K and RTX 2060 Super, bottleneck
