My friend sent me a msi geforce gtx 1070ti aero 8gb oc

but he is a heavy smoker the thing is filled with yellow film (nicotine)

thermal pads are completely saturated with it, I'm having it take a 99% isopropyl bath

so i have to either replace or somehow clean these thermal pads i have searched hard and even called msi teck support and they simply don't carry that information which is bullshit.

Anyone have any idea on what thickness the thermal pads are on this model? and also maybe what brand is a good choice.

i would measure them but there compressed so idk what the original size was

I have no clue. But I don't think the size is that seriously important. You want them a bit thicker than the gap. I would check on Amazon for common thermal pad thicknesses for a start.
Reviews on Amazon for the thermal pads might give you some info as well.

As for brand, I'm sure a bit of googling will help with that.
I know there are Geforce forums, I would assume there is MSI forums somewhere.

Other places to check might be overclocking forums, like overclock.net or similar.

In general, ya just have to google and go for it. If the pads are too thin or a crumby brand, you'll know pretty fast. :)

/e Iirc, they aren't very expensive, so you might want to assume some trial and error. Like get a set of say 2mm pads, and 3 and 4 0r 5mm pads, and just see what works the best.
Looks like they go from .25mm up to about 4mm thickness.

/ee Maybe start here and see where it leads you...

so i busted a ruler out and mesured the thickest part of the thermal pad it came out to be 1/16 of an inch that was converted into 1.5875 MM so 1.5 is it safe to assume that its eather 1.5 or 2mm and its just compressed into 1.5?

Or 2.5mm. It all depends on the compression factor of the thermal pad.
