Hey there folks, I've made a post about building a strong PC to run games and dual boot in linux as a work station. I've got comments that I should be waiting around september because new parts would be availlable by then and it would be more worth it. My current Pc keeps freezing while I play game and it is annoying the sh** out of me so I was thinking maybe I can build a really budget pc to run my game untill I order the beast in september. Not sure If I want to do it I just want to see my options (either build one for really cheap or endure the lagging until I buy the beast).

Edit: Dell optiplex 990 is around 50.00 comes with a second gen i5. Throw in a used GPU & SSD. Around 125.00 total for everything, should run what you want just fine until you do the build. What's wrong with the current system though not really any major specs for those games

I wouldn't personally do a whole build just for a few months. Just look for used hardware and go that route can find stuff for pretty cheap.

Well I am not too sure how to troubleshoot anymore. Over time I change my graphic card, changed ram, reinstalled my drivers like you told me (which made the games run smoother, but the freezing is still there) and reformated my pc. The SSD still has 20G of free space, so it's not full yet. The pc store next to my house is asking 125$ just for troubleshooting and I find it kind of expensive for not even fixing the problem. But you are right, if you have any idea of what I can try, I will do it, I am just not too much of a hardware guy so I am kinda clueless at this point.

So you did format the machine and the issue is still present in ALL games?
If your saying you did and didn't actually do it its going to impede anything we do further, so I wanna be clear you actually did it.

Also 20gb is not a particularly large amount of free space to have on a drive.
Could just build a beast with a mid tier CPU until the new ones release (the main anticipated new hardware expected to be announced next week).

If it runs just fine without the lag just go for a optiplex 990, it's a ddr3 board with i5 3.4ghz and toss in the GPU.

Would be like 50.00 total, when the new builds done just sell it.

Or.. reformat the current PC?
