Just got my 144hz monitor.
I currently have a 970 in my build, and my idle temps going up to ~62c.
The temps are around ~47c when the monitor is at 60hz.
I've set the monitor back to 60hz for now, and I'm looking to upgrade my gpu this weekend.
Heres my rig:

AsusPrime Z370-A
i7-8700k
Ripjaws V 16Gb
Corsair H100i
Gtx 970 4Gb

I'd like a 2080ti, but i can't justify dropping $1300+
I'd say my budget is around ~$800 or so.
I also don't plan to ever overclock.
What would you guys recommended?

those temps are fine, you shouldn't be upgrading a video card because of higher temps when they load...
you should be upgrading the video card if the 970 isn't enough to give you 144+fps in the games you play.

So I shouldn’t worry about it idling at 62c+?
But I’d also like to look into a new gpu. Just to upgrade anyway.
Still looking for recommendations.

Well there are quite a few 970's with 0-rpm mode but at that point fans should already kick in and lower temps. Its actually quite high for idle.
Probably needs some cleaning and new thermal paste.

For your budget the RTX 2080 would fit. Guess you are playing at 1080p though and in my opinion a RTX 2070 would be plenty. But it also depends on the games you are playing.

You idle temps shouldn't jump 15 degrees from a monitor...
The 970 could output thousands of frames per second and not really heat up if it's not actually having to render anything.
Make sure fans are working properly, heatsinks and filters are dusted out, and possibly new thermal paste since that card is years old.

If your GPU temps get into the 80s then you can start actually worrying.
