Description: Gaming, Photoshop/CAD, Video Editing, etc. and Budget

Budget:$2,500
More specific use (what games, what programs): Apex Legends, Photoshop, Blizzard Games, Excel. Pretty much always running Firefox tabs, Excel, and Spotify.
Planned time until purchase: Now
Do you need an Operating System?: Yes
Do you have any specific preferred components?: intel/nvidia, but I've been out of the loop for a while.
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: No, but if you can sneak it into the budget, I wouldn't complain
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: If I need to overclock to get the games/programs to all run well, I will.
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: No monitors. TKL keyboard suggestions and a mouse would be ideal. Currently have a G930 and a g502 (kinda feel like it's time for new stuff)
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 46530

What are your preferences in case style? (lights, flashy, dull, etc)
Are you planning to use multiple monitors?
Are you looking for upgrade-ability?
Do you have any preferred brands?
---intel over AMD. Unless you can really justify AMD.
---nvidia over AMD. Unless you can really justify AMD.
Can you reuse any components from an older build?
---I have the following SSDs/HHDs:

  • Samsung SSD 840 Pro -128GB (really old, like 8 years)
  • Samsung SSD 850 EVO - 500GB (4 years old)
  • WD Black HDD - 1TB (like 12 years old)
  • WD Blue HDD - 1TB (~8 years old)

Kinda wanna leave the WD Black in the old build though. All my other parts are from when the i5-3570k came out and I might sell it. Not sure yet. Really want a new build tbh.

Also forgot to mention, peripherals are not included in the $2500. And if anyone wants to just suggest peripherals, that would be helpful too :)

CPU, Mobo, Cooler. Great for gaming, streaming, photoshop, moderate rendering workloads, shouldn't have any problems for the forseeable future. Supports overclocking as has the potential to do so if you wish, also has wifi/bluetooth, however ethernet is still generally better for gaming.
I have the RAM in there twice because it's cheaper than the 32gb kit. You'd probably be fine with 16, at least for now, but since you have the budget might as well get 32.
1TB NVME SSD, much faster than the SATA SSD's like the 850 EVO.
You could even fit a 2080ti in this budget, but unless you have a 1440p 144hz or 4k monitor, and you play a lot of triple A titles, you won't really notice much for gains.
Case is a nice size for watercooling. If you decide to upgrade to custom loop in the future, you have plenty of radiator space. Good airflow, comes with 4 fans.
PSU is plenty for the 2080, if you go to the 2080ti, might wanna step up to an 850w.

For a mouse I'd recommend either the steelseries rival 310 or razer deathadder (kind've a cheesy choice, but they are still incredibly comfortable IMO).
Going to want more info for a decent TKL keyboard. How much are you looking to spend (true premium ones can be upwards of $200), do you want RGB, what kind of switches do you want, any other features you're looking for?
I like corsair's keyboard, nice metal construction they have pretty good offerings with red switches (my favorite, however I installed orings to dampen the bottom out sound and shorten the total keystroke distance, would highly recommend).
If you want to spend more, look at ducky, they make really nice stuff.

When is next gen? I seem to always ask around that time where people say "wait for next gen" and eventually I am gonna have to pull the trigger.
e/ and mean with no disrespect, just saying where I'm at with builds :)

I'll figure out the keyboard. I have a 1440p with 144hz monitor though ;)

ryzen 3000 series
6 core maybe up to 16 core mainstream
maybe clocks as high as 5ghz which would be in cool runnings with intel or over take intel in mainstream with more cores

they are pretty damn close on ipc just intel clocks higher

but here https://www.forbes.com/sites/antonyleather/2018/12/05/huge-leaks-reveal-amds-ryzen-3000-series-up-to-16-cores-and-5-1ghz-frequencies/#2530ccb2bbaf

thanks for the link. I'll take a look. As of now, I'm ok with just going intel though. Not a huge AMD fan tbh.

This is the first time in almost 2 decades that AMD is truly competitive with Intel, it's not the same disappointing stuff they had with bulldozer/excavator etc. Zen is actually good.
Next gen Ryzen will probably be available around June.
