I'd recommend spending a bit more for 16gb of ram and a 2600 CPU. Probably like 700 total.

If it is for "kid stuff" and it is your child, they will almost assuredly be doing more in the future as trends change with the time so I would agree with spending a bit more to hit 16gb RAM and possibly more for a mid range GFX card.

Just my experience that kids tend to try and make the bare minimum do the absolute maximum :)
